Whether you love rummaging through them for food or rifling through them when you’re a chef, cabinets are the one thing in your kitchen (apart from appliances) that will take a lot of space. As such, you want to ensure that you aren’t sick of looking at them every day. If you feel like making a change in your kitchen, or want to paint the cabinets a different color, here are some of our color tips to make the run for paint swatches minimal, at best.
Love of Color
There are a million colors that will look gorgeous on your kitchen cabinets, so how do you make sure you find the perfect one? Firstly, make sure that the hue that you choose won’t clash with the rest of your kitchen. If you have a lot of colorful paintings, appliances or countertops in your kitchen, it’s better to have neutral-colors, such as creams, beiges, whites, or grays. These will help balance out the color in the kitchen and will make it look much brighter, especially in the sunlight.
Minimalist? Make it Pop
If your kitchen has a lot of neutral-colored accessories and appliances, then spice it up with colorful cabinets for a fun, fresh change in the room. You can also paint the cabinets a nice light pink or lavender, or even mint green would look very nice. To remind you of warm sunshine, try a light yellow. If your kitchen is sparse, lighter colors have a tendency to make the space look bigger. Snow or frost cabinets on a white kitchen would look very nice, as well.
Big, Bold Statements
If you’re digging the darker side of the palette, such as violet, sapphire-blue, blood-red, wine, or even chocolate, ensure that you have a larger kitchen to work with, as these colors have a tendency to make a small room look dark and cramped. If you desire these dark colors in your kitchen, try to achieve a balance with the colors by adding in white accents, or whitewashed walls.
Meet in the Middle
If your eyes favor mixing in neutrals and more colorful shades, try out two-toned cabinets. Try it out by placing the dark color on the bottom, while the lighter color is on top. A nice light blue that mimics the sky and a darker blue would be a fantastic combination. Try out bright colors against neutrals such as grays or whites and decide if you like what you see.
If your cabinets are made of a darker wood, opt for lighter colors so that the space looks much brighter and better. Lighter colors will give the illusion of space, whereas darker colors tend to make a room smaller and cozier.
